Mass Transit Expansions and Upgrades
SEPTA is a tremendous asset in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia suburbs, and its expansion could only serve as a positive for Pennsylvania. Uniting our communities for work, play, and everything in between could be a tremendous financial and interpersonal asset for the state. Expanding SEPTA services to including rail lines into Berks County and the Lehigh Valley could be a project that creates jobs thousands of jobs, stimulates local economies, while also being a wonderful service that increases Philadelphia's economically prosperous business environment upon completion.
Intrastate transport can also be expanded, especially within the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad service between PA and North Jersey across the Delaware River Water Gap.
AMTRAK is another service that could benefit from an infusion of government investment, and with this investment their range of service would increase, and their prices would decrease.
Investments in Innovative Transportation Technology
Pennsylvania can lead the country in transportation technology. We must invest capital dollars and R&D money into building and using next generation transportation technology, including Hyperloop Systems, MagLev Trains, Autonomous Vehicles and Urban Transport Pods. These solutions are safer, greener, faster, and more efficient, and they would serve to put Pennsylvania on the map of transportation trailblazers. Reaching out to wealthy angel investors and other benefactors to fund these projects is not only feasible, it is already happening, and we must be a part of it. There is a critical mass of people in the country who are interested in revolutionizing mass transit, and working with small communities to make these large and connective projects happen is very important to our commonwealth.
Invest in World Class Cargo Infrastructure at PHL
With internet commerce on the rise, there is a growing demand for quick access to goods from around the world. Philadelphia International Airport is in a unique position to capture up to $23 billion in annual cargo shipping in upper mid-Atlantic region. With its current outdated facilities, we are only accessing 9% of potential cargo business. By developing approximately 1 million square feet of state of the art cargo handling facilities and redesigning the intermodal interstate highway access, PHL can create 6,000 ongoing jobs and $870 million in annual economic impact to the region.
